5 Tips for Bringing Your Date to a Work Event
DATELINE: NORWELL, MA…There’s a swanky work event coming up and the boss has made it clear that attendance is mandatory. Most of your colleagues and clients who will be attending it are married. No one expects you to fly solo, so bringing a date to the big event is imperative.
The challenge is whether or not your date is up to it. First impressions are everything, and in the work realm, who you bring as a date to an event can have lasting repercussions on your career.
Dating expert Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating, one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide, has been helping singles maneuver the dating cubicles for decades.
Falzone shares five tips for bringing a date to a work event:
*Invite your date well ahead of time to the event to ensure that your date is not only available, but that s/he has enough time to prepare for the event. Advanced planning gives your date plenty of time for getting a haircut, buying a dress, renting a tux and so on. At the very least, you should ask a week in advance.
*Make sure your date has all the details of the event. S/he will need to know whether the affair is black tie or a more casual event in order to wear the proper attire. You should also inform her/him of where and when it will take place. Is it an awards ceremony? Will there be a four course meal or simply hors d’oeuvres? Will there be dancing or is it more of a networking event? What will be expected of her/him?
*Brief your date on the “who’s who” of the event. Be sure s/he knows (and understands the importance of) the “players” at the event such as C-level executives, key clients and anyone else you need to make a good impression upon.
*Above all, choose your date carefully. If you know that s/he is extremely uncomfortable in social situations or tends to imbibe a little too much, you may want to reconsider asking her/him to accompany you to a work event.
*Don’t invite a date out of guilt. So, you really like this guy you’re dating, but you just know he would not be a good fit for the event. Listen to your instincts. You know your boss, colleagues and clients better than he does and there are times when it’s best to keep business and your personal life separate. First impressions count, especially in the corporate world.
“Who you bring as a date to a work event reflects on you. You may be dating the sweetest person on earth, but if they have trouble stopping at one glass of wine and end up getting drunk, it’s going to embarrass you and your company and at the very least, your sound judgment will be questioned,” said Falzone.
He continued, “Trust your own judgment. If you have confidence in your date and have covered all the bases by asking her/him in advance and briefing her/him about the event, you should be able to rest easy.”

Divorced and getting back in the dating game…How and when to play

Divorced and getting back in the dating game…How and when to play.
DATELINE: NORWELL, MA…
Going through a divorce is not a life experience you wanted, but it happens. Now, after licking your wounds, you’re ready to get out there. For many, it’s not that easy. It could have been years, even decades since you last actively sought a date. So, where do you start?
Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide—has paired hundreds of newly divorced clients during his quarter of a century in business. He’s also been divorced himself and happily remarried now for years.
“When you’re newly divorced, it seems everybody either has a friend they want to set you up with or words of advice or a little pep talk to get you back out there. The truth is, only you can know when you’re ready to start dating. That’s why it’s really important to take some time, think and get a sense of where you are emotionally first before you start dating—particularly if it’s been a very long time since you’ve dated,” said Falzone.
For starters, Falzone recommends:
*Going slow – perhaps it’s a cliché, but a divorce is a life-altering event and you do need some time to heal.
*Avoid the bar scene – Getting out with friends and co-workers as a way to re-enter the social scene but don’t do it as a way to meet potential dates.
*Get fit – Being ready to date again means feeling good about yourself. Starting an exercise program or going to a gym can begin that process of feeling good about you again.
*Be wary of dating at work – it’s natural for you to be close to people you work with, particularly if they’ve helped you through a tough time. Just be careful before entering into a relationship or even dating somebody at the office.
*Networking – While being set up might not be your idea of getting back into the dating game, if you’re looking it couldn’t hurt to let people in your social or professional network know that you are interested in meeting new people.
*The ex – It’s safe to say that dwelling on the ex will not do much good in dating new people. Just remember that you’re dating again for you, not to get back at him/her or to find somebody before he or she does.
*Take your time before introducing your dates to friends and, especially family – if you think your divorce is an adjustment for you, it’s also one for family, friends and your children. Wait before introducing your date to them, especially the children.
*No overnight guests – If you have children, wait a significant amount of time before having any overnight guests—at least until your date is something more serious and has had a chance to form some kind of a relationship with your kids.
“Getting back into the dating game doesn’t have to be scary. It can actually be an exciting time of your new life but you want to do it for the right reasons and be able to enjoy it,” said Falzone. “Take it slow, be open and upbeat, and you can find love again.”
“It’s great to be excited about somebody after a first date. What’s even better is to be even more excited after two. If’ your goal is for something lasting, there’s nothing wrong with taking it slow and making sure it really is, pun intended, the right one for you,” said Falzone.

Single? Maybe. Avoid Online Dating Lies and More
NORWELL, MASS…After a messy break-up with your significant other months ago, your best friend finally talked you into joining an online dating service. Now that you’ve registered, completed a brief questionnaire and submitted your most recent photo, you’re excited about meeting someone new.
At first glance, you’re impressed with the profiles of several attractive, successful singles. But, what your friend failed to tell you is that what you see online, isn’t always what you get in person.
According to Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating, the largest brick-and-mortar dating service in the world, “Online dating sites are used by the honest and dishonest alike. Men and women use the anonymity of the Web to lie about their age, appearance, name and even gender. For example, cheating spouses will use online dating sites to hook up with someone when they go out of town. It’s important to be aware of the perils of online dating before you get burned.”
Falzone alerts online daters of the red flags which signal potential dates to avoid:
R U free 2nite? The “texter” who has a few seconds to send text messages, but is always too busy or not available to actually chat on the phone or via email. This type likes communication to be kept to a minimum, unless s/he initiates it. Dates are often made and cancelled at the last minute with a variety of excuses used. S/he is often out of town a lot and inaccessible. These are common signs of someone who is not single and/or not being honest with you. Move on. You can do much better.
Beauty or beast? Beware of dishonesty through photo misrepresentation. Note that a good profile usually provides more than one photo of that person. If the photo looks too professional, chances are, it is – and perhaps even “borrowed” from somewhere else. And yes, there are people who deliberately post their high school photo from 15 years ago to attract your interest.
Think you hit the jackpot when you get a nice response with a good-looking photo? One of the ways competing online dating sites draw you in is by responding to you with profiles of “beautiful people” from another dating site. After you’ve clicked over to that site and signed up to meet that gorgeous creature, oftentimes you’ll find they don’t even exist. Save your time and money by responding to those who are members of your dating site.
Little lies. So you recently arranged to meet that single, 6’4”, trim and muscular, brown-haired former college basketball captain whom you found online. Upon meeting in person, you find out that the only thing true in his description of himself was his hair color. Some believe that telling “little lies” on their profile with regard to a couple inches in height or a couple pounds in weight won’t matter. Be aware that those who misrepresent themselves on the “little things” may have no problem lying about “bigger things” such as their marital status and age. Don’t settle for what you read in a profile. Verify the information they have offered by asking about their age, relationship status, height and weight. They may refuse to answer your questions or they may provide different information. Or, everything may measure up. Regardless, you’ll have a better idea of that person’s honesty and whether or not you really want to meet him/her.
The “put down”. Avoid the online profile that disrespects and rips an ex-lover to shreds or simply informs you of those aspects s/he doesn’t want in a date. For example, “looking for someone without issues – unlike my fat, drunk ex.” Or, “if you’re needy, jealous and selfish, look elsewhere”. These are profiles that signal potential anger issues. Statements such as these come from someone who has recently ended a relationship or is emotionally scarred from a past relationship and really not happy. Leave them be. You don’t need to be their sounding board or rebound date. They’re not ready to date now and won’t be until they can move on.

Will you get a second date?…How the follow-up call can open door wider or slam it shut.

Will you get a second date?…How the follow-up call can open door wider or slam it shut.
DATELINE: NORWELL, MA…
So, you’ve gone out on your first date with somebody you just met. It went pretty well. Perhaps even very well. So, now what? The follow-up call can be the determining factor on whether a second date or more occurs.
Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide—has given follow up advice to hundreds of clients before and after first dates.
“A good first date—or even a great one—doesn’t always mean there will be a second one. That’s why it’s best after that first date has gone well to take a step back and evaluate before taking the next step, the follow up call,” said Falzone. “And when you do follow up with your date, you want to be clear in your own mind that: A. you want a second date and (b) they want a second date and conduct the conversation accordingly.”
Some follow-up call guidelines include:
* Let it breathe – Wait a minimum of 24 hours before calling after the first date. If it truly was a great date, he or she won’t be with somebody else if you wait a day before calling.
* Email and texting counts – A post-date e-mail or text might seem harmless, but it really does interfere with the evaluation process. The follow-up call should actually be a phone call.
* Not at the office – Make sure you make your follow-up call at a time when your date is available to talk.
* At the sound of the tone – Be prepared to leave a voice mail in case he or she is not available. Keep it simple, don’t try to make a second date via voice mail. Just ask them to call.
* Two strikes rule – Call once and he/she doesn’t return the call, shame on them. Call more than twice without a return, shame on you.
* Keep it light – The gist of the follow-up call should be that you had a great time and ask if he/she wants to it again. Even if you spent the nice tossing and turning over what a great time you had, do not share that. Those make for great stories down the road. Get the second date first.
“It’s great to be excited about somebody after a first date. What’s even better is to be even more excited after two. If’ your goal is for something lasting, there’s nothing wrong with taking it slow and making sure it really is, pun intended, the right one for you,” said Falzone.

Dating Service Goliath Offers Co-Brand Dating Solution to Media Outlets
DATELINE: NORWELL, MA… International Dating Ventures has recently announced the availability of a co-brand dating solution for media outlets across the U.S.
International Dating Ventures is the holding company for one of the largest brick and mortar dating services in the world, The Right One and Together Dating, and the online dating sites LoveAccess.com and TogetherChristian.com.
Essentially, International Dating Ventures’ co-branded dating solution enables a media outlet such as a newspaper, radio or television station or show to incorporate a dating service element into their website.
“The solution provides media outlets with ‘dating out of a box’ – which means the media outlet provides the brand and marketing and International Dating Ventures takes care of the rest,” explained Nelson Rodriguez, the company’s Chief Technology Officer.
In addition to Cheaters®, a nationally syndicated television show airing in more than 100 countries, that has incorporated International Dating Ventures’ co-brand dating solution on their website, there are a number of prominent daily newspapers that also use the solution, including the Washington Post, Boston Herald and the Cape Cod Times. To view an example of the co-branded dating solution, visit NoCheatersDate.com.
International Dating Ventures’ co-brand dating solution provides media outlets with the dating software; the membership database; payment processing; customer support; hosting infrastructure and ancillary revenue sources. They even provide website design of the actual dating solution that is branded to the media outlet.
How it works
Visitors to a media outlet’s website simply click on a dating service link to sign up for free. Once signed up, the visitor is taken to the branded website and International Dating Ventures takes on the matchmaking from among their 3 million-plus members.
“For media outlets, this is one of the best ways to increase website traffic while also providing a service that is in demand and that generates additional revenue. It’s definitely win-win,” noted Rodriguez.
